Original WWII U.S. Army Ordnance Tool – Works with Our 76mm Bore Brushes for Barrel Cleaning
This is an authentic WWII-era 75mm Bore Brush Holder, designed for use with U.S. tank and artillery guns chambered in 75mm—most notably the M3 75mm gun found on early and mid-production M4 Sherman tanks, the M3 Lee, and various U.S. and Allied armored vehicles of the Second World War. This bore brush holder is fully compatible with our 76mm bore brushes available here on Ordnance.com, making it an ideal accessory for collectors, restorers, and armor historians. This bore brush holder was issued to tank crews and maintenance personnel as part of standard cleaning kits. It attaches directly to military-issue sectional cleaning rods and securely mounts a 75mm or 76mm brush to clean the rifled interior of the gun barrel after firing.
The 75mm M3 gun was the primary weapon on most M4 Sherman variants throughout WWII, providing a balance of armor-piercing capability and high-explosive firepower. Regular barrel cleaning was crucial to ensure performance in the field, especially under the harsh conditions of the North African desert, European mud, and Pacific humidity. These brush holders were part of the basic maintenance equipment used from front-line armor units to rear-echelon ordnance depots.
Even as the war progressed and the 76mm M1 gun replaced the 75mm in some later tank models, the cleaning equipment remained similar and interchangeable. This bore brush holder continues to be useful today for display, maintenance, and restoration of historic armored vehicles.
