US Army / Marine Corps Current Issue M205 Lightweight Tripod for Mk19 M2HB.

This is the M205 tripod/mount that the US Army & Marine Corps started fielding 10 years ago (deployed with the 1st Armored Division in November 2013 for use in Syria and Afghanistan). The M205 Lightweight Tripod for heavy machine guns is the replacement for the antiquated M3 tripod (in service since 1934) in support of the M2 heavy machine gun and Mk19 grenade launcher used in the United States armed forces. The soldier experiences less weight burden with the M205 tripod than with the standard M3 Tripod (50.3-lbs), and can take advantage of the enhanced tripod's integrated traverse and elevation mechanism for quicker, more accurate target engagement, as well as being able to be operated with only one hand. Not only is the M205 (34 lbs) lighter than the M3 by over 16 lbs (33%), it is structurally stronger and provides a more stable (lower dispersion) firing platform than the M3. The legs have spades to dig into dirt or sand to add to the weapon's stability. The M205 when stowed is 46 in long, 8 in high, and 12 in wide.
