About the M110 Telescope Mount
The M110 mount was designed to hold the M103 Straight Telescope on the M67 90mm Recoilless Rifle. It fits into the weapon’s front bracket assembly and allows the telescope to be installed or removed quickly.
The design provides repeatable positioning so the telescope returns to the same alignment after being removed and reinstalled. Adjustment screws allow the sight to be boresighted with the weapon in both azimuth and elevation.
The mount does not provide magnification or a sight picture by itself. Those functions come from the M103 telescope.
Associated M103 Telescope
The M103 was a fixed-focus direct-fire telescope with 3-power magnification and an approximate 10-degree field of view. Its reticle included range, lead, and stadia markings to help the gunner aim at armored vehicles and other targets.
The later M103A1 was a modified version with additional reticle markings for specific ammunition. Both versions used the M110 mount to connect the sight to the recoilless rifle.
Historical Background
TM 9-1240-297-35 was published in the same year the M67 90mm Recoilless Rifle entered U.S. service. The M67 gave infantry units a portable direct-fire weapon for use against armored vehicles, personnel, bunkers, and other hardened positions.
The M67 was designed to be fired from the ground or from the gunner’s shoulder. It later saw service during the Vietnam War and remained in limited U.S. use for many years.
Accurate fire depended on keeping the M103 telescope aligned with the rifle. The M110 mount made that connection possible while allowing the sight to be removed, serviced, and returned to its correct position.
