Sixteen Original NASA Lithograph Prints – Apollo Missions 8, 9, and 10

Bring home a piece of space history with this set of sixteen original NASA lithograph prints relating to Apollo 8, 9, and 10. Together, these missions mark key steps on the path to the first crewed Moon landing.

Historical Significance:

The Apollo missions were a series of groundbreaking spaceflights undertaken by NASA, with the goal of landing humans on the Moon and ensuring their safe return to Earth. These missions marked a significant achievement in space exploration and solidified NASA's reputation as a leader in space technology and innovation.

  • Apollo 8 (December 21-27, 1968): The first manned mission to orbit the Moon, Apollo 8 paved the way for future lunar exploration. It was launched from Cape Kennedy, and the crew included astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders. Their ten lunar orbits demonstrated that a crew could travel to the Moon, navigate around it, and return safely to Earth. This mission provided stunning photographs of the Earth and the lunar surface, highlighting the beauty and fragility of our planet.
  • Apollo 9 (March 3–13, 1969): Astronauts James McDivitt, David Scott, and Russell Schweickart tested the lunar module's docking maneuvers, life support systems, and extravehicular activity (E.V.A.) procedures in Earth orbit. The crew demonstrated that the lander and command module could separate, fly independently, and dock together again. These were essential steps for a lunar landing mission.
  • Apollo 10 (May 18–26, 1969): Astronauts Thomas Stafford, John Young, and Eugene Cernan conducted a close approach to the Moon, providing detailed reconnaissance of the landing site for Apollo 11. This mission rehearsed the landing flight around the Moon and tested all the components and procedures just short of actually landing on the lunar surface. Stafford and Cernan took the lunar module to about nine miles above the surface before rejoining Young in the command module.
