WWII B-29 Upper Ring Sight Azimuth Gearing Assembly, GE P/N 8007577G2, Less Selsyns

The WWII B-29 Upper Ring Sight Azimuth Gearing Assembly, GE P/N 8007577G2, Less Selsyns was manufactured by General Electric for the Model 2CSR3A1 Upper Ring Sighting Station used on the Boeing B-29 Superfortress. Its package label identifies it as Gearing Assembly, Az. (Less Selsyns) and carries a May 1945 package date.

This is the sight-side azimuth gearing that provided mechanical input to two Selsyn transmitters. It is not a turret-drive gearbox or the complete sighting station. The two electrical Selsyn transmitters are not included.

Historical Significance

The B-29 was the first production aircraft to use analog computers to remotely aim and fire aircraft gun turrets. Its General Electric central fire-control system allowed gunners to aim from sighting stations inside the aircraft while electrically controlled turrets followed their lines of sight.
