Description
This is an original U.S. Air Force radar-scope light filter assembly, officially designated MX-930/APA-52. The dark filter helped the operator view the radar display under changing cabin lighting conditions. The face is marked “OPEN TO VIEW SCOPE” and features A and B position markings with a knurled handle.
This listing is for the light filter assembly only. It is not the complete AN/APA-52 attachment or an AN/APQ radar set.

Purpose and System Use
The AN/APA-52 Doppler Drift Attachment helped determine an aircraft’s true ground track. It placed an azimuth mark on the PPI radar scope to show the drift angle.
A 1965 U.S. radar-equipment handbook lists the MX-930/APA-52 light filter as part of the later AN/APA-52A set. The handbook states that the system operated with, but was not part of, the AN/APQ-13 and AN/APQ-23A radar sets.
Historical Background
The September 1951 markings date this assembly to the Korean War and early Cold War period. It is a distinctive example of early U.S. airborne radar technology with strong display value for military avionics, radar, and U.S. Air Force collections.
