Description
M60A2 M50 Periscope Powered Wiper Assembly, P/N 10538530, NSN 1240-00-950-7205
The M60A2 M50 Periscope Powered Wiper Assembly, identified by part number 10538530 and NSN 1240-00-950-7205, is a U.S. Army optical-system component used with the gunner’s M50 day/night periscope.
Designed for 24–28-volt operation, the assembly powered a wiper blade across the periscope’s external entrance window to help clear moisture and preserve the gunner’s view.
Historical Significance
The M60A2 “Starship” combined the M60 tank chassis with a specialized turret built around a 152mm gun/launcher system. Its M50 day/night periscope provided the gunner with an optical sighting system for daytime and nighttime operations.
This dedicated wiper assembly supported the M50 periscope under wet or condensation-prone conditions.
What This Item Is and Does
The assembly mounts beside the M50 periscope head. Its electric motor and drive mechanism sweep the blade across the external entrance window or head prism, then park the blade outside the gunner’s field of view.
This is a powered periscope wiper assembly, not a vehicle windshield wiper and not the complete M50 periscope.
