Available now on Ordnance.com, the M42 Instrument Light is an authentic U.S. military accessory designed for use with the M27 and M34 Sight Units. These lights were a critical component in illuminating optical fire-control instruments during night operations, ensuring precise targeting even under low-light battlefield conditions.
The M42 Instrument Light was standard issue for U.S. Army indirect fire systems during the Cold War and late World War II periods. It enabled accurate nighttime laying of heavy mortars and recoilless rifles by providing adjustable internal reticle lighting, vital for units such as the 4.2-inch chemical mortar (using the M27 sight) and 75mm recoilless rifle teams (with the M34 sight).
Mounted via dedicated brackets and designed for rugged field use, the M42’s design and reliable functionality made it a key part of fire-direction gear for U.S. chemical, infantry, and airborne units.
These M42 Instrument Lights are original surplus units and are ideal for historical restorations, museum displays, or collectors of U.S. optical military gear. Please refer to the product images for specific condition details.
