This listing features an original M115 Periscope Mount Assembly, used on the iconic M48A3 Patton Tank equipped with the 90mm main gun. This authentic Cold War-era tank optic component includes all three pictured parts: the top cover, the main housing, and the mounting bracket with attached data plate. The assembly is offered in fair surplus condition, showing typical wear from long-term storage and field use.
The M48A3 Patton Tank, introduced in the early 1960s, was an upgraded version of the M48 series and saw extensive service during the Vietnam War. Powered by a Continental AVDS-1790 diesel engine and armed with a 90mm gun, the M48A3 featured improved optics and fire control systems, which allowed for more accurate target acquisition in both daylight and low-light conditions.
The M115 Periscope Mount was part of the gunner's or commander's vision system, designed to hold the periscope firmly in place and allow it to be properly aligned with the tank's fire control equipment. It ensured stable viewing through armored apertures and could be adjusted or serviced without removing other critical components. These mounts are now rarely found intact with original brackets and data plates, making this set an excellent piece for restoration, static display, or parts reference.
Approx weight 80lbs.
