Bring authenticity to your restoration with this original U.S. WWII-era input shaft dust shield for the M3/M4 family of medium tanks. This stamped-steel shield sits at the transmission/input area to keep dust, grit, and moisture out of the driveline—small part, big insurance for the clutch and gearbox in vehicles that spent their lives in mud, sand, and crushed coral. Condition is new old stock with surface rust from long-term storage (see photos).

Why this part matters

  • Correct for the platform: The M3 “Lee/Grant” medium tank (1941–1943) was America’s stop-gap medium that fought in North Africa, the Pacific, and even on the Eastern Front; it led directly to the M4 “Sherman,” the Allies’ workhorse of 1942–1945. Keeping contamination out of the transmission tunnel was critical for reliability in these theaters.
  • Right family, right catalog: The M4 series is cataloged under SNL G-104; “G104-04-01808” reflects that ordnance family lineage used across wartime SNL parts lists and depot manuals.

Details

  • End items: M3 series (Lee/Grant) and M4 series (Sherman) medium tanks, multiple variants.
  • Function: Shields the transmission/input shaft area to reduce the ingress of dust and debris, thereby supporting the longevity of the clutch and gearbox in field conditions. (Role derived from component nomenclature and driveline layout in period technical manuals.)
  • Material/finish: Stamped steel, stored finish with surface rust present.
  • Condition: New Old Stock (NOS); storage wear and oxidation consistent with age.
  • What’s included: One (1) input shaft dust shield P/N 209767 / B-209767.
  • Dimensions/fitment: As original; please confirm against your hull/transmission variant before installation.

Ideal for

  • WWII armor restorations where correct ordnance-family hardware matters
  • Museum and vehicle display projects seeking factory-style under-cover details
  • Spares for running M3/M4 restorations and driveline overhauls

Notes

  • Photos show representative condition; expect light surface rust and storage marks.
