Item Overview

This U.S. Navy DB-6 assembly board is an electronic component from a guided-missile-launcher system. It was modified at Naval Ordnance Station Louisville, Kentucky, in February 1974 under ORDALT 6134-A. The board contains repeated diode-and-resistor circuits used within launcher-control equipment. It is not a missile, guidance unit, fuze, or explosive component.

Probable Circuit Function

The repeated diode-and-resistor sections indicate that the board served several similar electrical channels. The diodes could direct current, separate circuits, or block reverse voltage, while the precision resistors controlled electrical levels. This layout is consistent with a launcher relay, sequence-control, safety-interlock, steering, or clamping network. 

Launcher-System Application

The NSN confirms that this board belonged to guided-missile-launcher equipment rather than the missile itself, The Mk 11 Tartar launching system and its Missile Launching System Control Mk 9 equipment. However, Mk 10 Terrier and Mk 13 Tartar equipment cannot be excluded. 

Historical Background

Cold War Navy missile launchers combined mechanical loading equipment with electrical controls, relays, switches, and safety interlocks. These circuits helped control missile selection, magazine movement, launcher position, loading, and firing sequences. Tartar and Terrier systems equipped guided-missile destroyers and cruisers that protected Navy formations from aircraft and other threats. An ORDALT was an authorized change to Navy ordnance equipment, and the 1974 marking shows that this board was updated during its service life.

Documentation Note

The National Archives ordnance-manual index lists OP 2593-IPB, Volume 4, an illustrated parts breakdown for Missile Launching System Control Mk 9 Mods 0 and 1 for Tartar equipment. That undigitized volume is a promising source for identifying drawing 1677905-G2, but no publicly available parts plate currently proves the exact launcher installation. The essential identification as a Navy guided-missile-launcher electronic board is supported by its NSN and surviving markings.

This is an original military-surplus electronic assembly that was modified in 1974 and later declared excess. It may show dust, oxidation, discoloration, worn markings, bent leads, aged coatings, storage wear, or other signs of handling and age. The electrical components have not been tested, and the board is offered for collecting, research, restoration reference, or display.
