This inert 94mm British LAW-94 / LAW-80 (Light Anti-Armor Weapon) is an extremely rare and highly sought-after piece of Cold War and modern British military ordnance. Designed to replace earlier shoulder-fired anti-tank weapons, the LAW-80 was developed for the British Army in the 1980s, serving as a highly effective disposable anti-tank system for infantry forces. Historical & Tactical Significance:
The LAW-80, also known as LAW-94, was designed in the late 1970s as a replacement for the 66mm M72 LAW and Carl Gustav recoilless rifles. It was adopted by the British Army in the early 1980s, specifically to provide infantry units with a lightweight yet highly lethal solution against Soviet armor during the Cold War.
This man-portable, single-use launcher was equipped with a high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warhead, capable of penetrating up to 700mm of rolled homogeneous armor (RHA), making it highly effective against main battle tanks, armored personnel carriers, and hardened defensive positions. The LAW-80 featured a unique pre-fire spotting rifle chambered for 9mm tracer rounds, which allowed the operator to accurately engage targets before launching the main rocket.
Although the LAW-80 was eventually phased out in favor of more modern anti-tank weapons such as the NLAW (Next-Generation Light Anti-Tank Weapon), it remained in service with British forces into the early 2000s. It was used in several conflicts, including the Gulf War and operations in the Balkans.
