Description
INERT Restored 66mm M72A1 High-Explosive Antitank Rocket Defect for M72 LAW
Item Overview
This is an inert, restored 66mm M72A1 High-Explosive Antitank (HEAT) rocket made for display. It represents the rocket used in the M72 Light Antitank Weapon, better known as the M72 LAW. This full-scale display combines original and precision-made reproduction components. It contains no explosive charge or functional propellant and cannot be fired.
Condition and Transit Damage
This item is being sold as a defect because it received minor damage during transit. The nose cap is damaged, and the warhead body has visible scuff marks. The damage is shown in the product photos, so please examine all pictures for the general condition of the item before ordering.
Original and Reproduction Components
The restored rocket includes an original military motor and folding-fin section. The warhead and coupler are newly manufactured 1:1 reproduction components made from aluminum. A reproduction plastic fuel cell is installed inside the motor section to help recreate the internal form of the original rocket. No 3D-printed parts were used. Because the assembly combines original and reproduction components, it should not be described as a complete original military rocket.

About the M72A1 Rocket
The original M72A1 was a fin-stabilized rocket with a shaped-charge warhead intended to defeat armored targets. When fired, spring-loaded fins opened after the rocket left the launcher and helped stabilize it in flight. The shaped charge focused the force of the explosion against a small area of armor. The M72A1 was an early improved version of the original M72 rocket and became one of the best-known models used during the Vietnam War.
M72 LAW Weapon-System History
The M72 LAW was developed during the late 1950s and early 1960s to give individual soldiers a lightweight antitank weapon. A complete military rocket was factory-packed inside a compact telescoping launcher that also served as its carrying container. The launcher was extended before firing and discarded after one shot. Its light weight and simple design allowed a soldier to carry antitank firepower without the crew and equipment required for a larger recoilless rifle or bazooka.
History of Use
U.S. Army and Marine Corps personnel used M72-series weapons extensively during the Vietnam War. Although designed for use against armored vehicles, soldiers also fired them at bunkers, fighting positions, buildings, and other hardened targets. The weapon’s small size made it useful in jungle terrain and during patrols where heavier weapons were difficult to carry. Later versions of the M72 family continued to serve with the United States and allied nations in conflicts after Vietnam.
Collector and Display Value
This restored rocket offers the appearance and scale of an M72A1 while remaining inert and suitable for display. Its original motor and fin section provide a direct connection to military production, while the machined aluminum warhead and coupler complete the exterior form. The documented transit damage makes this a lower-condition example, but it remains a strong display piece for an M72 LAW, Vietnam War, Cold War, or infantry-weapons collection.
