Finish your 40mm L/70 Bofors display round with this newly manufactured dummy nose fuze. Purpose-built for the M811 High Explosive Incendiary, Point Detonating (HEI-PD) projectile, the U.S. 40×365mmR round was developed for the Bofors 40mm L/70 autocannon and the M247 Sergeant York DIVAD system.
Machined from solid aluminum, this dummy fuze replicates the external form and thread interface of the original M761-series point-detonating fuze used on the M811 cartridge, giving your inert projectiles the correct nose profile and finished, service-ready look.

Historical Background – M811 HEI-PD for the Bofors 40mm L/70

The Bofors 40mm L/70 is a post–World War II evolution of the famous 40mm L/60 anti-aircraft gun. Developed in the late 1940s, the L/70 offered higher muzzle velocity, a faster rate of fire, and improved performance against modern high-speed aircraft and lightly armored targets, and it went on to serve worldwide on ground mounts, armored vehicles, and naval platforms.
To support this gun in U.S. service, the Cartridge, 40mm HEI, M811 was adopted. It is a 40×365mmR high explosive incendiary round with a point-detonating fuze, filled with a high-energy explosive (Octol) and designed for use against low-flying aircraft and ground targets. The projectile body is alloy steel, painted yellow with black markings and a red band, and its nose is threaded to accept the M761/M761D point-detonating fuze, which provides graze sensitivity, delay action, and a self-destruct function for safety.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the M811 HEI-PD was notably associated with the M247 Sergeant York self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, a DIVAD system mounting twin 40mm L/70 guns on an M48 chassis, where M811 provided the primary high-explosive air-defense and ground-attack capability.

This listing is for the dummy nose fuze only; projectile is not included.
