Cutaway Construction
A large section has been removed from the side and base of the case, making the interior easy to examine. The opening reveals the case-wall thickness, formed shoulder, empty powder chamber, and threaded primer installation. This cutaway format is well suited for technical instruction, ammunition study, and military displays, but its original reason for being sectioned is not documented.
Markings and Date
The installed primer is marked DM144, which is its German military designation. The DAG code is associated with Dynamit Nobel AG, a major West German ammunition manufacturer. The marking DAG 1-82 appears to indicate production lot 1 of 1982, placing the primer within the Cold War period; this marking dates the primer assembly and does not necessarily establish when the case was made or sectioned.
35×228mm Cartridge History
The 35×228mm cartridge was developed for the postwar Oerlikon family of high-velocity automatic cannons. It became closely associated with the KDA, KDB, and KDC cannon series and the GDF twin-gun air-defense system. The cartridge offered the range, speed, and projectile capacity needed to engage fast aircraft while remaining compact enough for automatic loading.

Oerlikon 35mm cannons served in towed, fixed, naval, and self-propelled air-defense systems around the world. KDA cannons armed vehicles such as the German Gepard and Japanese Type 87, while KDC guns were used in the GDF twin-gun family and GDM-A naval mount. Later 35×228mm weapons included the KDG revolver cannon, Oerlikon Millennium naval gun, MANTIS, Skyshield, Skyranger 35, and Bushmaster III. Ammunition developed for this family includes high-explosive, armor-piercing, target-practice, drill, and programmable airburst cartridges.

This is an original military-surplus case with an installed primer assembly. It may show cut and machining marks, finish wear, scratches, tarnish, discoloration, surface oxidation, or other signs of age and handling.
