This item is sold as new old stock, meaning it was manufactured for service use but remained unissued. The original preservative coating and storage packaging are a major part of its appeal, showing that the part spent its life in protected storage rather than in service wear.

The 20mm M24 Series
The 20mm automatic guns M24, M24A1, and M24E2 were U.S. aircraft guns designed as combination blowback- and gas-operated, air-cooled weapons firing electric-primed fixed ammunition.
They were intended for installation in aircraft wings, fuselages, and turret mounts, and the technical manual lists a normal cyclic rate of 700-800 rounds per minute. A key feature of the M24 family was that the guns could be fed from either the right-hand or left-hand side by changing the feed mechanisms and repositioning certain components.

About the Right-Hand Slide Receiver
The receiver group is a core structural element of the M24 family. It serves as the main body that supports and aligns the gun's critical operating parts. The slide receivers help guide the breech block.
This right-hand slide receiver remains:
  • New Old Stock
Original military production, not a reproduction, and never placed into service.
  • Still in Original Storage Packaging
Preserved with original protective compound and wrap, exactly the kind of arsenal-stored condition collectors want to see.
Original Packaging and Cosmoline
One of the standout features of this piece is that it is still in its original, preserved packaging, with a cosmoline /preservative coating. Military technical instructions for new M24-series guns note that new materiel was packed in heat-sealed, water-vaporproof barrier bags or in earlier water-vaporproof bags and cotton stockinets (“Saran packing”), and that components were protected with a film of preservative oil. That same long-term storage approach is part of what makes NOS parts like this so desirable today.
Because these are original surplus-packed components, the packaging condition will vary. You should expect age, shelf wear, staining, tears, brittleness, and other storage-related imperfections to the outer packaging. The packaging may not be cosmetically perfect, but that is part of what confirms the item’s originality and long-term storage in an arsenal.

Condition
This item is new old stock in its original preserved wrap, but the packaging condition will vary from piece to piece. Typical characteristics may include:
  • Original cosmoline or preservative compound present
  • Wrapping or outer packaging with age-related wear
  • Storage stains, tears, or brittleness in the packaging
  • Shelf wear from long-term military storage
Under the preservative, the part itself remains a highly desirable original-surplus component suitable for advanced collections and historically accurate restoration work.

Why This Part Matters
Original M24-series 20mm gun parts are difficult enough to locate. A right-hand slide receiver that is still wrapped, coated, and preserved as stored military surplus is much harder to find. This is the kind of part that appeals to:
  • Advanced aircraft armament collectors
  • Museum restoration programs
  • Researchers documenting the M24, M24A1, and M24E2 family
  • Restorers who need components for historically accurate builds
For the serious collector, this is more than just a spare part. It is an untouched piece of U.S. aircraft gun history, preserved the way it sat in military inventory.
Ideal For
  • Reverse engineering
  • Restoring or completing a 20mm M24 / M24A1 / M24E2 project
  • Museum and educational displays on postwar U.S. aircraft armament
  • Collectors of original U.S. military gun parts still in preserved wrap
  • Reference collections focused on M24-series components.
