Description

155mm M1/M114 Howitzer Traversing-Arc Closure Plate, P/N 5191790

The 155mm M1/M114 Howitzer Traversing-Arc Closure Plate, P/N 5191790 is a carriage component used on the traversing arc of the U.S. 155mm M1/M114 howitzer family.

This plate mounts to the traversing arc and retains the leather closure wiper associated with that mechanism. It is a closure and retaining component, not the complete traversing mechanism.

Historical Significance

The 155mm M1 howitzer entered production during World War II and was later redesignated M114. Rock Island Arsenal produced major carriage components and assembled howitzers in this family through the early 1950s. Packaging dated June 1952 places this closure plate in the Korean War-era military supply period.

What This Item Is and Does

The traversing arc is part of the carriage's horizontal-aiming mechanism. This closure plate fastens to that arc and holds the leather closure wiper in position as part of the larger traversing assembly.

About This Item

The package identifies the component with A5191790 / 5191790, FSN 1025-519-1790, and a June 1952 packing date from Rock Island Arsenal. The later NSN format is 1025-00-519-1790.

Army maintenance documentation identifies this part as the closure plate used with the traversing arc and leather closure wiper.
