Inert, restored 152mm M411A3 Target Practice Tracer (TP-T) projectile. Purpose-built to replicate the form, weight, and ballistic characteristics of service HEAT/MP rounds, the M411 series was used for gunnery training with the U.S. 152mm gun/launcher systems—notably the M81/M81E1 on the M551 Sheridan and the M162 on the M60A2 “Starship.” These dual-role turrets fired both conventional ammunition and the MGM-51 Shillelagh missile, and TP-T projectiles like the M411A3 were essential for live-fire practice while preserving combat stocks.
This specimen presents nice original-style markings and a large demilitarization (demill) cut in the nose (clearly shown in the listing photos).
Fielded in the late 1960s and 1970s, the 152mm gun/launcher concept gave U.S. armored forces a flexible weapon capable of firing both guided missiles and conventional 152mm rounds. The M411A3 TP-T mirrored the handling and external ballistics of service loads to train crews in loading, ranging, and engagement sequences on the Sheridan and M60A2 platforms—iconic vehicles of the early precision-guided munition era.
