The M5 Mortar Bipod is used for the M2 60mm Mortar. The 60-mm M2 mortar is a smooth bore, muzzle-loading, high-angle fire weapon similar in design to the 81-mm described in FM 23-90. The mortar is assembled into a single unit while the mount consists of two units, the bipod and base plate. A detailed list of the parts and equipment and the essential data pertaining to the 60-mm mortar and mount may be found in SNL A-43. The mortar is attached to the bipod by means of a mortar clamp and is easily dismountable. It is fastened to the base plate by inserting the base cap into the base cap socket and then closing the base cap lever.
