These are genuine U.S. military surplus items in very good condition, ideal for system restorers, aviation museums, or collectors of Cold War aircraft weaponry.
Each cam-extractor is made to exacting government specifications to withstand the punishing stresses of autocannon use aboard high-performance jet aircraft. Choose from the following variants:
The M39 20mm Revolver Cannon was the standard aircraft-mounted autocannon of the U.S. Air Force from the 1950s through the early 1970s. Firing the 20×102mm round at up to 1,500 rounds per minute, it served as the primary gun armament for notable Cold War-era aircraft, including the F-86 Sabre (later variants), F-100 Super Sabre, F-101 Voodoo, F-5 Freedom Fighter, and several experimental platforms.
Inspired by German WWII revolver cannons, the M39 employed a single-barrel, gas-operated rotary chamber system, making it faster and more reliable than the Browning-based aircraft guns it replaced. Components like the cam-extractor ensured precise cycling of ammunition, a critical function at high firing rates and under the extreme stress of flight conditions.
While later succeeded by the six-barrel M61 Vulcan, the M39 remains a significant milestone in American aircraft gun development. These extractors are hard-to-find legacy components with enduring historical and technical value.
Whether you're sourcing operational spares or enhancing a historically accurate restoration, these M39 cam-extractors are a key part of aviation armament history.
