This restored H‑12 Adjustable Hand Truck is an authentic Cold War-era U.S. nuclear weapons handling dolly, part of the standardized “H‑gear” equipment set used by the U.S. Air Force and Department of Energy (DOE). Originally introduced in the early 1950s as the “H‑12 Universal Cartridge Carrier,” this heavy-duty hand truck was designed for safe transport, positioning, and alignment of nuclear weapons such as the B28, B43, B61, and B83 gravity bombs during storage, assembly, and aircraft loading operations.

The H‑12 hand truck features a robust steel frame with adjustable rails designed to cradle cylindrical bomb bodies. A built-in screw-jack mechanism allows the load platform to be raised or lowered by several inches, enabling precise alignment for maintenance and loading tasks. Four heavy-duty wheels and a forward towbar ensure smooth maneuverability within weapons storage bays, hangars, or on the flight line. This reliable design remained in operational use for decades and appeared in numerous DOE and USAF nuclear weapons protocols and safety incident reports.

This particular H‑12 Adjustable Hand Truck has been carefully restored and preserved as a historical artifact. Its rugged construction and pivotal role in the nuclear arsenal’s ground handling infrastructure make it an excellent centerpiece for collectors, museums, or Cold War educational displays.
